In my first tandem jump, the intense rush of freefall gave way to an unexpected calm, one that caught me by surprise after the anticipation of chaos. When the parachute opened, I found myself suspended in a moment of stillness, an almost meditative quiet where time seemed to slow, and the earth below unfolded in a new, expansive way. I had imagined the jump would be filled with a sense of exhilaration, a rush of adrenaline to match the heights, but instead I felt an incredible peace—an absence of expectation, and a full immersion in the experience itself.

This quiet, suspended moment mirrored a shift in my creative process. Just as I had to let go in the sky, trusting the parachute and the guidance of my instructor, I have learned to let go in my work. The art I create now emerges not from the pressure of expectation, but from a deeper place of trust and presence. The moments when I suspend my need for control—when I allow the process to unfold without forcing the outcome—are the moments where my work feels the most alive.

There is something profoundly liberating about being in that space between freefall and landing. It is a moment of suspended tension where everything feels both infinite and intimate, a place where clarity and uncertainty coexist. It is in these quiet moments of openness that I find my truest creative revelations. In both skydiving and in art, I’ve come to realize that it is often the unexpected, the absence of rigid plans, that holds the most potential for growth and discovery.
